The Savethehumans.com
Self-Gratification
of the Day Award

For the most unnecessary - but coolest - product, website, or doodad of the day.

The Winner for June 25, 2001

Switchouse

For once I clicked on one of the banner ads on my own site, and I'm glad I did. Switchouse lets you trade people for CDs, DVDs, books, software, even electronics. So now you don't have to go through the extra step on eBay of selling your stuff, then bidding on the stuff you want.

Switchouse automatically connects people who have a product with people who want it. In fact, while you're searching and browsing for products, the product webpage will automatically display which of the things you want to get rid of can be traded. Just set up your list of "wants" and "haves", and you're all ready to go.

The selection is impressive, too. (Supposedly over 4 million listings.) And if you have nothing to trade, most items have an optional price that you can pay. The prices are pretty good, too: grab a volume of the Chaplin Collection for $7.94 or My Man Godfrey for $6.34.

Have an extra copy of Pee Wee's Big Adventure lying around? Trade it for a copy of Life With Father. Or not.

Check out Switchouse
