of the Day Award

For the most unnecessary - but coolest - product, website, or doodad of the day.

The Winner for June 11, 2001

Early '80s Song of the Week

Ok, so let's ignore the site's disclaimer on their About page regarding the "greed, consumerism and shallowness of the early/mid 1980s". After all, without the virtue of greed, we wouldn't have gotten all the great plastic-clothing-wearing new wave artists of the early/mid 1980s, or even today's award-winning site.

I'm sure the guy who runs the site would hate to receive such words of praise, but we proudly salute his greedy desire to acquire such an extensive knowledge of early 80s music, obviously based on a rather large record or tape collection. Each week he features a different song, with lyrics, some background, and a link to CD Now for song samples. (He's honest enough not to make complete MP3s available.)

From Mr. Mister, Elvis Costello, and Kim Carnes, to Devo, the Sisters of Mercy, and Wall of Voodoo, you'll find all kinds of songs you may or may not have heard in the 80s. Great site, check it out.
