Obama’s Full-Blown Crisis

“…the question I think the American people are asking is, do you just want government to do nothing, or do you want it to do something? If you want it to do something, then we can have a conversation. But doing nothing, that’s not an option from my perspective.”
– President Obama, Feb. 9, 2009

Mr. President, it all depends on what the meaning of “something” is. Since when did “something” only refer to American dollars and only come in denominations of one trillion?

Economists don’t even agree about what ended the Great Depression. Fortunately, Obama’s solution just happens to jive with his natural inclination to spend other people’s money. The only thing we’re sure that gives Obama a hard-on other than Michelle is the chance to turn rich people into personal finger puppets.

I’m tempted to ignore Obama’s small-minded, 1930s-style focus on roads and buildings. Apparently he hasn’t been on YouTube lately. He should try logging on the next time he’s on Air Force One; there’s a great video he could watch about doing business in the 1990s. There’s even one that’ll teach him all about airplanes. I heard FedEx uses them sometimes.

But something tells me Obama thinks people want his “certainty” shtick right now rather than his “hope” shtick. My advice is: calm the fuck down. Obama has his “crisis” face on (only Michelle knows “fully-blown”), but that doesn’t mean everyone else needs to panic along with him. When someone’s argument amounts to: “this situation is different from anything else you’ve ever experienced and anything you understand, so therefore you better agree with me to do something completely contrary to your common sense and to your experience”, it’s time to take a breath.

Government has no right to ownership, temporary or permanent, complete or partial, of your person, your home, or your business. Not even your failing business. Especially at the expense of the ones that aren’t.

This panicky, “SHUT UP! Stop arguing! Stop thinking! We have to DO something RIGHT NOW!” shit started before Obama even. Didn’t the guy pushing the first bailout thing that got all this rolling even use the phrase “we’ve got a gun to our head”? The more I (try not to) watch this unfold, the harder it is to avoid musing that it may have all been planned this way.

Are you aware of any websites that are tracking the similarities between the news of the day and the events of Atlas Shrugged? Remember the good old days, when even fans would tell you what a farfetched scenario it was, and what ridiculous caricatures the villains were?

(this comment box is still claustrophobic)

Ayn Rand’s 1974 article Egalitarianism and Inflation is an eye opener about what’s happening to the American economy right now.

What do you know, you can listen to the Egalitarianism and Inflation lecture (and Q&A) free right here. (RealPlayer required.)

…and for those of you who want it the old-fashioned way, it’s on page 120 of the Signet paperback of PHILOSOPHY: WHO NEEDS IT.

Thanks for the tips, both of you.

Oh! _Now_ I remember this one! This is wonderful! I’m about 15 minutes in, and she just got a good laugh from the audience. Thanks again.
